Here’s your weekly update from myself and the rest of the team.
What’s Been Happening This week members of the team have been assisting the Cheylesmore Neighbourhood Team and Priority Crime Team following numerous complaints of off-road and electric bikes making residents' lives a misery. A rider has been identified and arrested for dangerous driving, possession of cannabis and public order offences. His motorbike has been seized. A Community Protection Warning has also been issued with conditions to help protect the local community. Should the warning be ignored then a formal notice will be issued, breaching this is a criminal offence which can see fines of up to £2,500 being given to an individual. Changes to S.59 Powers Whilst on subject of nuisance vehicles, there have been changes to s.59 powers available to officers. This was a Police warning and seizure power for the anti-social use of vehicles. The changes mean we can now seize vehicles immediately without the need of a prior warning. Owners will only have seven days instead of 14 days to recover their vehicle.
Fires On Thursday 30th July youngsters set fire to grassland at PROLOGIS PARK. This is not the only fire related incident we have had recently across the four wards. What may seem like a small fire can quickly escalate, causing serious damage and putting lives at risk. If a child is found to have started a fire deliberately, they can be arrested and end up with a criminal record which could potentially affect job prospects when they are older. Please speak to you children about the risks.
Fuel Theft A theft from motor vehicle has been reported on BOWNESS CLOSE which occurred between 11:00 pm Thursday 30th July to 5:00 pm Friday 31st July. Suspect(s) has targeted a van and syphoned fuel. Fuel theft from parked vehicles is increasing across the UK due to rising fuel prices. To protect your vehicle, use defensive parking by positioning the fuel tank side close to a wall or other physical barrier and install lockable fuel caps.
Security We are asking residents to be vigilant when securing their homes and vehicles. We have had reports of suspicious activity around cars.
Before you settle in for the night, be sure to double check your vehicle is locked and parked in a safe location.

Awareness On Monday 3rd August at approximately 7:30 pm, a male has been knocking on doors in the Radford area. The male claimed to be from British Gas and offering a discount. Please use caution if you are cold called. Annoying phone calls or unwanted visits | West Midlands Police
Crime figures Over the past nine days, there have been two reports of theft from vehicles on BOWNESS CLOSE and BIRMINGHAM ROAD and a theft of a Kia Sportage on TAMWORTH ROAD.
Over the same time period, one business burglary has been reported on SANDPITS LANE, a shipping container has been broken into and a generator, compact plate, saw and breaker have been stolen.
